Aug 3 – 6 Campbell River Dog Fanciers and Glacier View, BC. We had a wonderful time on Vancouver Island attending a few small dog shows – the two Tristlets shown did well. Loki (Ocean’s Carissima) enjoyed his ferry rides and did us proud with a RWD (to his half brother) and two WD (no class bitches), finishing his Canadian Championship under Australian judge Joanne Sewell. Loki is a VERY enthusiastic show dog and kept me on my toes:) He is the third Can CH from the Tristan x Palace litter.
Another pleasant part of attending the small shows on the Island trip was watching Zarina’s littermate, the very athletic Watson (Hilerica Tofino) in the ring with breeder/owner/handler Carole Adley. He was WD 3 of the 4 days entered, and RWD the other day. Watson went Group 3 one day under Richard Fehler – what a nice compliment to a half race/show combination.
July 23 Alaska Hound Group Assoc specialty, AK. What an incredible weekend in AK for junior handler Caleb Welch and Tristan x Junie daughter Saga (Ortona Hidden Stories). We are so proud of them – to start off at the AK Hound Specialty, Saga was WB/BOW/Best Puppy and Best Puppy in Hound Specialty for a 4 point major, again went WB, and then Sunday WB/BOB over Specials for a 5 point major under judge Dana Cline! Saga turned 10 months old for this very last show of the season. 11 points in one weekend! We are thrilled for Caleb, Stephanie and all of their wonderful support team.
July 11 Kenai Kennel Club show, AK. Saga gets her first point with Caleb handling!
July 4/5 Great job to the Lower Mainland Whippet Assoc and Whippet Club of BC members in pulling together a fun and memorable weekend of Whippet Specialty shows despite some record breaking heat temps. Congratulations to all those that did well, and it was wonderful to catch up with those who make it a yearly trip.
At our end, Tristan and his kids had a nice day at the WCOBC Specialty under breeder judge Mr. Charles Roberts.
Handsome Djinn (Forgetmenot Tonic and Djinn) was WD in a lovely entry of 17 class males. We were thrilled to receive the award to finish his Canadian Championship (NEW Can CH!) with a 5 point win.
Salem (Ortona Bubble Witch) did our lovely house guest and breeder/owner/handler Linne Wagner proud with Reserve WB and Best Puppy in Specialty (at both the WCOBC and NWCC Regional Specialties). Mama Junie was Select bitch at the Regional.
Tristan was Select Dog – thank you so much to Linda Buchholz for handling him on such short notice.
Watson (Hilerica Tofino) was second in a class of 6 in Coursing Class. I haven’t seen him since he was 8 weeks old, so was very fun showing him.
Djinn at 18 months – WD at Whippet Club of BC Specialty
Salem at 9 months – RWB and Best Puppy in 2 Specialties
June 27 Barn Hunt Bellingham, WA. We attended our third Barn Hunt trial weekend, and Tristan gained a leg in Senior level, with a Second in his division, and Second fastest qualifying run in Senior. June 6/7 Vancouver Island Lure Coursing. Watson (Hilerica Tofino) was BOB both days at the coursing trial. Way to go! Congrats to breeder Carole Adley and co-owner Brenda Gaff.
June 5 Auld Lang show, Chilliwack. We are very pleased to announce NEW Canadian Champion Thias! He was WD to finish today.
It was a rough road with him breaking his leg almost one year ago when he was 6 months of age, but he healed exceptionally well, and shown sparingly in the 12 – 18 class, he almost had a clean sweep in the show ring – other than one reserve, he was WD or better in every show entered.
Thank you Shivaun and family for all your hard work in the rehabilitation and care for Thias – we couldn’t have done it without you!
May 23/24 Barn Hunt Bellingham, WA. We attended our second Barn Hunt trial weekend, and had ratfastic results LOL.
Entering Open level for the first time, Tristan qualified in 3 runs to finish his Open title RATO! Not only did he have 3 placements in his division (first, second and third), he was HIGH in Trial in Open in one trial (awarded to the fastest dog out of all heights in the Open entries)! He is only the 9th whippet in North America with this title.
According to the stats, Tristan is the first and only Canadian whippet with a Barn Hunt title.
Tanzy was entered for the first time, and she passed her RATI Instinct test as well as a leg in Novice. Not bad for our 8.5 year old.. she finds pleasure in indicating each and every tube, rat or not, so will need more time to figure out her cues.
May 23/24 Georgia Rag Racing CWA race. TJ (Raybar’s Foolish Heart) completed his first 2 adult meets, with a THIRD and FORTH placement in the match. Way to go Cindy and TJ! Photo by Sandra Willis.
May 17 Alaska Kennel Club, Anchorage. At the Match, Saga (Ortona Hidden Stories) went Best in Puppy Hound Group at 8 months old. Photo by Holly Lewis.
May 16/17 Mt Baker show, WA. Decided to enter Tristan as the show is so close. His first all breed show as a Special and he picked up 2 Grand Ch points.
May 9/10 CWA meet, Abbotsford. WOW! What a fantastic day at the RFF race meet. Winston (Hilerica Tigh Na Mara) finished his first full race meet with a SECOND in meet! With high quality competition and an entry of 27, we are thrilled with his respectable 18 point finish, and his 4 ARX and 2 NARX points. Winston (Tristan x Padme) is owned by Deborah Bouwman.
Djinn (Tristan x Kiwi) did us proud, finishing his second meet and placing First in the show match, for his first DPC credit. Very happy for owners Dan Mason and Vanessa Giddings!
Next day, just Djinn at the races, and is shown by his owner for the first time, to a Fourth placement in the match. Great job Vanessa!

Apr 29 Tristan footage was used as a ‘clue’ on the game show “Jeopardy”. So fun!
Apr 19 – 26 American Whippet Club National Specialty, Wisconsin. I didn’t take any dogs, so was able to enjoy seeing hundreds of beautiful whippets and enjoy time with new and old friends.
Tristan x Harper Lee son TJ (Raybar’s Foolish Heart) was shown wonderfully in Bred By by his owner/breeder Cindy Hatcher.
Apr 12 We lovingly give farewells to Carat (Ortona Diamond Digger), who now resides in Belgium in a wonderful show home.
Apr 3 Aristocrat Hound Specialty, Chilliwack. First time in the ring this year, and Djinn went WD at the Specialty under judge Dr R Indeglia.
The next day was his CWA racing debut as a B dog, and he finished his first race with a respectable 10 points and High Score First Time Entered. Good job Djinn!
Sunday Thias went WD for a single at the Renaissance show under Mr L Teixeira, Portugal. 5 shows and 5 sets of points..
Mar 27/28 Oceanside show, Cloverdale. A lovely debut for Titan (Ortona Monster Fever) from the Tristan x Junie litter. Titan’s first show at 6 months and a day old in Cloverdale, with Winners Dog, BOW, BOB over Specials, and Best Puppy! Judge Dr. Jakkal from Hungary commented on his lovely footfall. Mama Junie (Can NSBIS Ortona Junie B. Jones) was WB/BOS over specials.
The next day, Titan went WD/BP, and is now halfway to his Can Ch. Junie BOW.
Thias (Ocean’s Burnt Almond) was only entered the last day and handled by myself, and went WD – 4 shows and 4 sets of points. Junie BOW to finish her Canadian Championship. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Linné!
Mar 21/22 Barn Hunt trial, WA. Tristan rocked the rat ring this weekend : ) Attended our first Barn Hunt trial this weekend, and Tristan passed his RATI Instinct test and went on to qualify in his Novice runs for his RATN, finishing with a 4th placement, to finish his 20th title. He loved it, pulling me toward the barn, front legs ourstretched in his usual Zombie style. Absurdly pleased that he didn’t lift his leg once on the hay bales, he was too busy working. Something new for me, with scentwork and learning to read indication signals.
“Here’s the rat, mom!”
Mar 14 UKC show, AZ. Katniss shown today by Rhonda, with a Best Female and a Reserve Female. 5 month old CC (Ortona Candy Crush at Runners) had a wonderful show debut – Reserve Best Puppy in Multi-Breed fun match! Congratulations, girls!
